As a visual response I have decided to draw a feather in the colours of the gay flag, Matthews wings were something that really stood out to me and so was the gay flag so I have merged the two together creating this drawing.

In the summer I went to Swansea Gay Pride, one act that stood out to me was Matthew Roberts, he sang on stage with massive wings on his back, I really liked this and thought it was very unique and creative.

This is the painting I did by myself, when looking at Powell’s work I felt a connection to the human body, one image stood out to me as looking like the human heart, others I thought looked like nerves and veins. I have tried to create an image that represents the nerves and veins I could imagine while looking at Jonathan Powell’s creative paintings.

Paul’s painting shows some cogs. When looking at Powell’s work Paul felt that the figures looked like machines and people connected, similar to the film Transformers, he thought cogs were a creative way to show this.

With this painting I helped Anthea to paint a war scene with bugs, She also sensed destruction within Powell’s work but felt that the shapes represented insects, she felt that by painting a battle scene would show how she felt.

This is a picture that I helped Alysha with. When looking at Jonathan Powell’s work she felt tention and a stormy atmosphere, as there were lots of paintings she felt a bit trapped and wanted to show in her piece that the storm was all around her but also coming from inside her head.

I thought more about how something can have a different meaning depending on who is looking at it and decided to ask my friends to paint with me using their ideas of what they felt the work meant and how they interpreted it.

Jonathan Powell’s work comments on today’s environment, painting the atmosphere of the human landscape, where large crowds of people bump into each other, damaging one another in an environment where the individual scarcely exists. I didn’t realise this as I was viewing the work. When I went down to the Mission Gallery Swansea to see the work I took my friends with me, I enjoyed the discussions we had to try and work out what the images were about. I liked that everyones ideas were very different and the paintings evoked many different emotions and feelings.

For a visual response I chose to take a photo of the back of someones head, I liked the idea of people putting on a show and becoming someone else. Is it just for entertainment or do people do it all the time in everyday life? Taking a photo of someone from behind shows that someone may not be who you think they are. You can assume but it is a lot harder to know for sure. I have emphasised this feeling of not knowing by putting the image in black and white as it is harder to see the colour of the persons hair.
